The NESTLÉ® Healthy Kids Global Programme (HKP) forms part of our commitment to improve global nutrition through the promotion of greater awareness, knowledge and understanding of healthy eating and physical activity and their impact on health.
This global programme, based on multi-stakeholder partnerships, aims to raise nutrition, health and wellness and promote physical activity among school age children around the world through better eating, healthy hydration, greater physical activity or other key health measures such as hygiene. The Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme is implemented in Nestlé markets globally.
The large-scale and increasing global health and development burden posed by Non-Communicable Diseases is a concern to Nestlé. Solving this issue requires the involvement and cooperation of many parties including scientists, academia, consumers, health leaders, the food and beverage industry and primarily national and international authorities.
Mauritius has been ranked amongst those countries with the highest rate of diabetes and the rate of childhood obesity is showing similar trends. As a result of these alarming statistics, in 2011, the Nestlé Healthy Kids Programme was launched in Mauritius. We thereafter entered into a partnership with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, Tertiary Education and Scientific Research and the Mauritius Institute of Education to enhance nutrition education to the children of Mauritius. Today, the programme is part of the extra – curricular activities and is run across all government and SEDEC schools in Mauritius. More than 70, 000 children have been reached through this programme.
